City Alight (and Psalm 8)

G’day readers!

Hope you are doing great right now and sorry for not writing something sooner. If I’m being honest, I’m not quite sure how to write articles anymore. So I’ve got 24 unfinished ones, silently urging me to finish them, complete their beings, as I’ve got a lot I want to say to you all! As I’m learning how to make articles again, I still wanted to write about my current favourite band – City Alight!

Now if you know me, you might be confused, as this is not remotely bluegrass, but the lyrics are just so good! Their mission is to make biblical songs that every church can sing along to, regardless of the size and resources, so their simple melodies have a bigger purpose, too.

All time favourite song of theirs is Yet not I but through Christ in me, which illustrates the life with Jesus; he is everything we need, he brings us through the difficult times, he has dealt with our sin and he renews us every day as we long to follow Jesus until we’re with him. Even though this song follows our lives and what we face, its focus is on Jesus and how it’s actually all him who’s got us and is also working in our lives! He deserves all the glory!

The song that is currently encouraging me is Oh the mighty hand. It’s about how great God is! His power is echoed through all he makes and the heavens declare his glory! And this is the God who has such a love for humans that he sent his son to die for us to be with him, though we are so tiny and our wickedness has damaged creation so badly. He is a remarkable God!

While on this topic, have a look at Psalm 8:

“Lord, our Lord, how magnificent is your name throughout the earth! You have covered the heavens with your majesty.

From the mouths of infants and nursing babies, you have established a stronghold on account of your adversaries in order to silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I observe your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you set in place, what is a human being that you remember him, a son of man that you look after him? You made him little less than God and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all the sheep and oxen, as well as the animals in the wild the birds of the sky, and the fish of the sea that pass through the currents of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how magnificent is your name throughout the earth!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭8 CSB‬‬

I LOOOVVVEEE this Psalm. God is the God who made the moon, the beautiful stars, all land, sky and sea animals and he made us the rulers over his creation though we’re so tiny.

But this Psalm is not ultimately about us, but Jesus! God is so remarkable in his care for humans like you that Jesus came down to earth to die so that you can be saved from your sins and have a relationship with the creator of the universe! Jesus was crowned by the Father with glory and honour! He rules over everything and is a marvellous king! And God has now made us his adopted siblings! God is just so great!
